Durham Artists Social Network

A social network for artists, and their friends, in the Durham Region in Ontario

Hello!

I am slowly starting my own business doing commisioned portraiture in paint, graphite, and charcoal. Everyone that has showed interest wants to see a webpage... but I do not have one! Being artists yourselves, I was wondering if you could offer me any advice on how to start a webpage that will be capable of holding around 20 pictures.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you... and I will be adding some of my artwork (as well as a picture of myself) to my profile soon!

Hi Julia,
There are a number of things you can do. If you just want to show some photos to clients you can add them to an already established site like Boundless Gallery.com
It used to be free but they are now charging a nominal fee of about 60.00/yr.
There is also Yessy, and a few others
If you want to create your own site, there is also a free one on Yahoo, Geocities (at least it used to be free, it just has a few ads on a sidebar.
I used the Yahoo, Geocities for a couple of years then upgraded to a paid geocities site to remove the ads. It really is reasonable, about 10.00/mo. and you can add a lot of pages, plus it pretty easy to use.
Hope this info helps.
Cheers
Sharon
my site is www.steinhausstudio.com
if you want to take a look
I have had a good responce with freeservers.com.
They have a wide variety of set formats to choose from, but still gives you the ability to get into the html to jerry-rig it the way you want.
I have a budget of zero, so i have to deal with ads, popups... but if you have a more substantial amount to spend you can have the ads deleted.

Good luck...
and am looking forward to seeing your work.
