In my life as a visual artist the only time I had studio space was when I was at school. I could never afford another space to do artwork between stints at school.
I am looking for space to work for the first time in my working life as an artist.
My living spaces were always used by me to work in. I would change the materials I worked with to suit my living space, however, it limited my use of flammable materials, ie. when oil painting, so I left oil painting for sometime out of necessity.
When a gallery rep comes by to 'see' your work it seems necessary to have a studio, so I was seen to be working on my 'next' thing/series/where was going with this/ the next step. This came up for me in another city about a decade ago.
I'd be interested to hear stories from your experiences from artists on this list. How have you adapted to having/not having/creating a studio space.
I am in Oshawa, but would also be interested if someone knows of any art studio spaces/buildings in Durham? Do they exist here, like they do in larger cities?
