In my fancy I clutchted at the vanishing shadows,
at the vanishing shadows of the fast-dying day.
I was climbing a tower and the stairway was trembling,
and the stairway way trembling neath my feet all the way.
And the higher i climbed, the more clearly were painted-
the more clearly were painted the far shapes for my eyes.
And I seemed to hear sounds from somewhere in the distance,
From somewhere in the distance, from the earth & the skies.
Yes, the higher i climbed, the more brilliant were shinning
the more brilliant were shinning mountain peaks in the sky.
And my misty eyes seemed to be given caresses,
To be given caresses in their tender goodbye.
And far down below me- Night had already fallen,
Night had already fallen upon Earth, now at rest.
But for me there still shone the day's heavenly body,
Fiery heavenly body sinking into the West.
I have learned to hold on to the vanishing shadows,
To the vanishing shadows of the fast-fading day.
Higher, higher I climbed and the stairway was trembling,
And the stairway was trembling neath my feet all the way.

The Law of Life
I asked the scattering wind:
How can I be young always? I spoke,
And the playing wind fluttered the answer:
Be airy like wind and like smoke.
I asked the herculean sea:
What's the great law of life that you've found?
And the resonant sea roared, replying:
Be like me-always mighty with sound.
I asked the celestial, hot sun:
To flash brighter than dawn...what to learn?
And the high, aloof sun gave no answer..
But my soul heard and said to me: Burn!
