Glad to have been invited to this site by Allan!
I have rarely had time to get involved much within my own community's art goings on. Always too much work and running I guess.
I have entered the PineRidge juried exhibitions, the Oshawa one a couple of times as well as an older one in Pickering that was held at the library and civic building there back in 97. I had one Best of Show for a black and white airbrush portrait of my sister, Kyla. I think that show may be defunct or…

I would like to invite all visual artists in the Ajax and Pickering areas to consider applying to the Durham West Art Studio Tour on october 3rd and 4th of this year.
We are looking for dynamic and interesting artists to participate in this annual event. We have over 18 artists now and are looking to complete our artistic roster.
DWAC's mandate is to foster the arts in Durham Region and promote the artist's and their work to the community and beyond.
If you are interested in participating or want more information please contact me at andrew@dwac.ca
cheers

I haven't heard anymore about portrait classes or paint outs.Do you still have that in mind?I'm interrested in learning to "paint" portraits in acrylics.
I've been doing pastels for some time now but they are so delicate and dusty.
Please let me know if you're doing a course or get wind of one.
Thanks.
This Summer I had a large mural in a cabana outside a pool at a home in Pickering and 2 pretty extensive commissions. I ended up finishing them last week and had hoped to have a couple weeks to paint off and on, till my busy seasonal job starts, but it got a bit too overwhelming lately, with the kids' stuff and plans and such. So, it is going to be a huge rush for me to finish the painting I need to have done for the show I am invovled in at Gallery 888 on Queen.
I got involved in a life drawing group in Markham, through an artist friend, and I probably will re register for that once a week night this Fall. It is a great and quite talented group of artists I encountered there.
Hope everyone had a good Summer! Delete Comment
I would love to get involved in a portrait group.
The biggest hurdle, to getting good at portraiture, is the lack of models.
I know a few artists in Scarborough and Ajax who would probably jump at the chance. The only issue is the studio space. My house is too small.
