Film Description:
When a fallen Canadian soldier from a war is brought into Toronto, their body is often driven down the 401 highway. Because of this the highway was also labeled "Highway of Heroes".
A few days ago, when shooting some test visuals, I noticed that light bouncing off the the UV filter produced a very spiritual ghostly light that reflected the movement happening in the scene. I decided to keep acquiring shots of the 401 from various locations and angles, embracing the light.
I also decided to use the Lensbaby Composer with the double glass optic for some of the shots to add a dreamy look to some of the shots.
Later at home, with some color grading I was able to enhance the lights to create an almost spiritual look.
Some of the shots look like our fallen soldiers are surrounding our own world reflecting our lives and protecting the peaceful existence that we know so well here in Canada.
It's so fitting to see this effect embraced on a film piece profiling our "Highway of Heroes". It's almost like I accidentally captured their spirits. hmm... it's quite romantic to think about it this way.
I hope you can see it the same way I do. Cheers!
